Designing for Families

This housing development focused on three key design goals: homes that would support extended family lifestyles, homes that would allow residents to age in place, and a development that would support the health and well-being of its people. The project consists of 68 three and four bedroom homes clustered around a 12-acre central green. The ground floor of each home is designed for full accessibility.

Six housing designs comprise the Adams View project. Common to each design is a spacious gathering room where large groups of family and friends can come together. The room is accentuated in both area and volume with 10-foot ceilings in four designs and vaulted two-story spaces in the other two layouts. High windows and ceiling fans provide for passive cooling of the rooms. The gathering room is anchored at one end by a large open kitchen that features expansive countertops with ample space for the processing of summer and fall harvests, and dressing fish and game.
