Expressing Identity in Public Space

The Council’s priority goal identified for 2020-21 was to construct a new City Hall / Community Center / Emergency Operations Center.

The current City Hall was constructed in 1917 and later expanded into the old fire station in 1955, with many remodels since then.  A previous facility needs assessment study uncovered numerous structural, programmatic, and accessibilty deficiencies with the existing City Hall, prompting concern for the short- and long-term safety and well-being of staff and visitors.

As part of a robust community outreach process, ARC provided several conceptual options with a goal of reflecting the spirit, scale, and aesthetic of the Town with respect to the residents' perception of their past, current, and future identity.

Two potential sites were considered: the American Legion Building on McKinley Avenue/Bird Street and the corner of Tolt Avenue/Bird Street, culminating in a selected site and option that ARC is currently developing for bid and construction documents.
