Front Street Park serves as an integral focal point of the City of Leavenworth’s central downtown district, hosting crowds of visitors at all times of year. The existing 960 square-foot restroom facility remains well-maintained but its women’s room sorely lacks the capacity to keep up with demand. This project will address growing capacity & maintenance needs, enhance wayfinding & pedestrian circulation, and introduce a covered public structure that will better serve the community.
The charm of downtown Leavenworth is accented by its characteristic expression of the Bavarian-Alpine style. Using key design features, this project solidifies itself as an anchor point in the core of the community. Taking notes from the surrounding buildings, this plaza creates a pronounced gateway from which to enjoy the downtown views. The significant decorative scrolled elements and signage enhance the overall immersive experience of Bavarian history. Replacement of overgrown plantings will provide views from the sidewalk down into the park, over a soft and airy meadow of ornamental grasses punctuated with pops of colorful blooms.
