South Whidbey community has been working to develop an aquatic center for many years.  In early 2023, ARC Architects was selected to lead the design and coordinate the public outreach for this new recreation facility.  The site is located at the entry to the South Whidbey Park along Maxwelton Road. The design connects each space to nature and the outdoors, with views of the woods and fields beyond. With parking to the north, the natatorium opens up to the south with access to outdoor patio and event spaces. The Aquatics Center includes a competition pool, recreation pool, spa, sauna, and locker rooms as well as supporting program features which include a fitness room, party rooms, and administration offices.  The recreation / warm pool has 2 lap lanes, a current channel, a vortex, water features, and wide stairs and a ramp for easy entry. 

With 2 well attended public meetings led by ARC and with a robust, owner driven outreach campaign, the bond passed with 61% approval in November 2023. Lincoln Construction is the General Contractor and began construction in Fall 2025. Anticipated completion in Winter 2027 will provide much-needed public aquatic recreation opportunities to the South Whidbey community.
