Benefits of Community Partnerships
The City of Tacoma and the Parks District identified a great need for a new community center in southeast Tacoma. ARC provided feasibility study & operations plan for this new Eastside Community and Aquatic Center. The process included consideration of five sites for the future center, and the program evolved from broad community input, multiple surveys and public meetings, and reflecting the diverse community.

Located adjacent to First Creek Middle School and a wetland, the facility provides a large gymnasium, fitness room, meeting rooms, recording studio, cafe, and aquatic center. With its large canopy extending towards the school, it welcomes the students and community to gather, play, and celebrate together.
The basketball gymnasium opens up to the wetlands to north and accommodates large social events up to 200 people. The track is accessed from the main entry level and provides an important amenity for the community. The large social hall can be divided into 2 smaller spaces and is adjacent to an extra large commercial kitchen for a wide variety of events, as well as serving the Boys & Girls Club.
The large pool combines shallow water area with play features, a large vortex, drop slide, diving board, and four 25-yd swim lanes. With lots of options for play and exercise, this pool is well used and loved by the community.
